The South Sioux City Public Library, 2121 Dakota Avenue South Sioux City Nebraska, is proud to host bestselling author, Vicki Myron, for a One Book, One Siouxland kick-off event, on Saturday January 24th, at 2:00 p.m.
Vicki Myron was born in the rural Spencer, Iowa area. She graduated from Mankato State University and has a Master’s Degree from Emporia State University. She worked at the Spencer Public Library for twenty-five years, the last twenty as Library Director.
Dewey: the Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World by Iowa author Vicki Myron is the 2009 selection for the One Book One Siouxland initiative sponsored by the Sioux City Public Library and South Sioux City Public Library.
Riding high on the New York Times best-sellers list, this memoir successfully blends small town values and survival against the odds with a touching animal story, and will offer much to discuss in local coffee shops and libraries, or wherever friends gather. The relationship between Dewey and the people of Spencer embraces the possibilities of second chances. It demonstrates the restorative power of nature and exemplifies that rare magical bonding between living beings.
The goal of One Book One Siouxland is to share ideas and build community through the experience of reading and discussing the same book and viewing a film adaptation of the story. This year is a departure from previous programs in that readers will have to wait for the movie.
