Yvonne Hollenbeck is a Clearfield, South Dakota rancher’s wife and when she is not busy with the many duties that it requires, she is busy making quilts and writing and performing poetry. She comes from a long line of quilters and poets. Both hobbies have brought her to national prominence: her quilting winning local, state and national competitions; while her poetry has taken her to the largest cowboy poetry gatherings in the country.
Her quilts reflect the stories of lives lived in former generations of women, with loving hands, pieced together quilts much as they pieced together their lives . Her poetry, mostly humorous pieces, sheds light on the little problems of modern life, while remaining mindful of the hardships and big problems faced by women of yesteryear.
Yvonne shows her own award-winning quilts, along with those that go back to her great-great-grandmother, while she recites poetry about quilts and quilters. By the presentation, one will be able to see the progression of style, fabrics and methods of quilting through the last one hundred and fifty years. This is a very heart-warming and entertaining presentation that has become one of the most requested in the Heartland.
The Living Arts Quilt & Craft Show celebrates all the practical arts that make life a little better in the Heartland. Along with quilts, we will show works of knitting, crochet, lace making, leather working, wood working, and other crafts that will be of interest to both men and women.
It is not too late for you to participate. We have openings for both presenters and artists to display their work. If you would like to show:
