Books for Thanksgiving:  The first thanksgiving feast was held in 1621 to celebrate a bountiful harvest and to give thanks for their survival during their first year in the new world.  The following are some cookbooks with ideas for tasty holiday recipes.

Betty Crocker:  Celebrate!  A Year-Round Guide to Holiday Food and Fun has a terrific section on Thanksgiving, with complete tips for thawing and preparing your turkey, fool-proof gravy and edible centerpieces.

The Betty Crocker Cookbook:  Everything You Need to Know to Cook Today is a complete cookbook with a thorough introductory section for the novice cook.  It has a mouth-watering variety of recipes for any time of the year, but for the adventurous Thanksgiving cook it has a tempting recipe for Cajun Deep-Fried Turkey.

Making and Using Dried Foods by Phyllis Hobson is an introduction to the process of drying fresh food for use later.  Along with introducing the types of drying, the book gives times for purchasing dehydrators, drying specific types of vegetables & fruit, as well as recipes for using your dried food once it’s done.  Among the recipes, you will find recipes for various types of cranberry relish and breads.

Have a Happy HolidayThe library will close on Wednesday night November 21st at 8 pm for the Thanksgiving holiday and reopen at 9 am on Saturday November 24th

Have a safe and happy holiday from the staff of the South Sioux City Public Library.
