Fall in Love with a Good Book at the Library

The South Sioux City Public Library is offering you an opportunity to have a Blind Date with a Book.  To participate, stop by the display table in the center of the library.  Browse the books in plain wrappers and choose a book that appeals to you maybe, just maybe…fall in love with a good book.

Love Your Library:  February is Love Your Library Month.  Show your love for the library by writing what you love about the library on a heart, which we will post for everyone to see.  To encourage you to say why you love your library, you may sign-up for a drawing for a box of candy.   By the way, your reasons for loving your library will remain anonymous.

Technology Classes

Using Reference Resources (Monday 1:00 p.m.):  By using reference tools, we will cover how to find information on Wilson Web, eLibrary and HeritageQuest.

Microsoft Excel 1 (Monday 5:00 p.m.):  Trying to make a spreadsheet? Need a little starting guidance? We can help. We will teach all about the worksheets in Excel, how to move around the worksheet, all about the cells in the worksheet (cut copy paste) inserting rows/columns, and saving all your hard work.

Keyboard and Mouse Skills (Monday 6:30 p.m. and Wednesday 5:00 p.m.):  Double-click, Right-click, Scroll If you get overwhelmed by knowing what all to do and when to do it with your computer mouse, step into this class and learn! Your mouse and keyboard are the ways you communicate with your computer; the more you know the more you can make your computer work for you!

Microsoft Word 1 (Tuesday 10:00 a.m.):  We want you to become familiar with Microsoft Word 2007, so to begin we will start with basic terminology, how to accomplish everyday tasks such as creating a new document, saving a document, spell checking, change text and printing.

Setting Up an Email Account (Tuesday 11:00 a.m. and Wednesday 2:00 p.m.):  If you never have had an email account this is the class for you. Learn about the different free email service that is very easy to sign-up for and use.

E-book Readers (Tuesday 12:00 p.m., Wednesday 3:00 p.m., and Thursday 6:00 p.m.): Join us to learn how to operate your e-book reader and how to download free books from the library.

Clean Up Your Computer (Tuesday 4:00 p.m.) Is your computer running slower? Do pop-ups keep appearing? Does your computer randomly crash or freezes up? Then this may be the class for you. Clean Up Your Computer shows you how to maintain your computer on both the outside and the inside. Learn what basic procedures and what free software you can use to improve the performance of your computer.

Microsoft Word 2 (Tuesday 5:30 p.m.):  We will add to our knowledge from Word 1 and expand a little bit more. We will discuss the ruler, insert/overtype, cut and paste, using the clipboard, and paragraph styles.

Pinterest Basic (Wednesday 6:30 p.m.):  Discover, collect, and share inspiration, Pinterest lets you organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. People use pinboards to plan their weddings, decorate their homes, and organize their favorite recipes.  Best of all, you can browse pinboards created by other people. Browsing pinboards is a fun way to discover new things and get inspiration from people who share your interests. Join millions of pinners who are using Pinterest to share and explore their interests, the possibilities are endless!

Everything Google (Thursday 4:00 p.m.):  Welcome to the wonderful world of Google.  Learners will discover some about Gmail, iGoogle, Google Documents, Google calendar, Google Books and more.

Tech Thursday (Thursday 5:00 p.m.):  Join us to learn how to operate your e-book reader and how to download free books from the library.

Youth Activities:  Monday Movie 3:30 p.m.; Preschool Story Time (Tuesday 1:00 p.m. and Wednesday 4:30 p.m.); Alphabet Party (Tuesday 6:30 p.m.); Pat-a-Cake Pals (Thursday 10:00 a.m.); Night of FUN at the Library (Thursday 6:30 p.m.); Toddler Time ( 10:00 a.m.); Let’s Create (Friday 4:00 p.m.) and Saturday Movie 1:00 p.m.
