New Movies at the Library


The following is the weekly column that we place in the Dakota County Star.newspaper.

We would like to highlight two new movies you will love. The first is Alex Cross, the new movie based on the James Patterson detective series.  Tyler Perry is a huge success in his first detective/ mystery movie.

The second movie is Flight Denzel Washington plays a commercial airline pilot who successfully crash lands a plane only to face a greater challenge of dealing with alcoholism and drug abuse.

NebraskAccess:  (Monday at 1:00 p.m.) This is an introduction to the search engine developed by the Nebraska Library Commission and the databases available to South Sioux City Public Library card holders.

Microsoft Excel 2:  (Monday at 5:00 p.m.) Did you know that Excel has a way to input math calculations right on your worksheet? There are ways to edit the cells in the worksheet such as alignments, borders, font changes, background, etc.

Windows Basics:  (Monday at 6:30 p.m.) We will start at the very beginning of Windows 7 with an introduction to the Desktop, Start Menu and the all new Taskbar.

Microsoft Word 3:  (Tuesday at 10:00 a.m.) We have learned all about saving, new documents, text editing, cut and paste and much more. In this class you will learn bullets, undo/redo, setting margins, page numbers, page breaks, headers/footers and print preview and printing your document.

Mango Languages:  (Tuesday at 11:00 a.m.) Learn languages quickly and easily with the world's most powerful language software. Mango Languages allows you to learn even the most difficult languages.  Choose from 16 foreign languages and 12 English as second languages (ESL).

E-Book Readers:  (Tuesday at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. and Thursday at 6:00 p.m.):  Join us to learn how to operate your e-book reader and how to download free books from the library.

Microsoft Excel 1:  (Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.) Trying to make a spreadsheet? Need a little starting guidance? We can help. We will teach all about the worksheets in Excel, how to move around the worksheet, all about the cells in the worksheet (cut copy paste) inserting rows/columns, and saving all your hard work.

Google Documents Spotlight:  (Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.) This class will give learners an opportunity to learn how to create word processing documents, spreadsheets and presentations in the cloud and share them with friends.

Windows Basics 2:  (Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.) With this class we will build on the knowledge of Windows Basic and learn more about the Start Menu, where you can launch any programs installed on your computer and also search for files (pictures, videos and music) We'll also demonstrate how to "pin" your favorite programs to the Start Menu or Taskbar.

Facebook for Business:  (Thursday at 4:00 p.m.) With this class we will build on the knowledge of Windows Basic and learn more about the Start Menu, where you can launch any programs installed on your computer and also search for files (pictures, videos and music) We'll also demonstrate how to "pin" your favorite programs to the Start Menu or Taskbar.

Tech Thursday:  (Thursday at 5:00 p.m.)  If you are having trouble with your laptop or other electronic device, bring your questions to this class.

Youth Activities:  Movie Monday at 3:30 p.m. Preschool Story Time Tuesday at 1:00 p.m., Alphabet Party Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., Preschool Story Time Wednesday at 4:30 p.m., Pat-a-Cake Pals Thursday at 10:00 p.m. Night of FUN at the Library Thursday at 6:30 p.m., Toddler Time Friday at 10:00 a.m., Let’s Create Friday at 4:00 p.m. and Saturday Movie at 1:00 p.m.

One Book One Siouxland Movie:  We will view a 1969 film about a group of aging outlaws who plan and execute one more bank robbery.  We will show this movie on Tuesday February 26th at 7:00 p.m.

B Movie Night at the Bijou:  We will view a movie based on the H.G. Wells story the Time Machine on Thursday February 28th at 6:00 p.m.

Cover to Cover Book Club:  Cover to Cover book Club will discuss the book The Time Keeper on Friday February 25th at 6:30 p.m.
