Bogart and Bergman at the Library

The following was published in the Dakota County Star newspaper on July 11th, 2013.

The library has multiple movies scheduled this week.  Beat the heat and join us for one of the following.

Classic Movie and Discussion:  The library will show a 1942 classic starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman in a conflict between love and liberty; as a bitter night club owner helps a former lover and her husband escape from the Nazis.  The Classic Movie and Discussion is held on Tuesday July 16th at 7:00 p.m.

Real to Reel Movie:  Set in 1939, Bill Murray stars as Franklin D. Roosevelt in the story of the love affair between FDR and his distant cousin Margaret "Daisy" Suckley, centered on the weekend in 1939, when the King and Queen of the United Kingdom visited upstate New York. The Real to Reel movie will be shown on Thursday July 18th and on Saturday July 20th at 2:00 p.m.

Monday Matinee Movie:  Bring your children to the Monday Matinee Movie at 3:30 p.m.  These family friendly movies will be repeated on Saturday on at 11:00 a.m.

Summit Scribes Writer’s Group:  The Summit Scribes writer’s group is held on Monday July 15th at 6:30 p.m. at the South Sioux City Hy Vee.  This month we will talk about effective blogging.  The assignment for this meeting is to write a blog post on how to motivate oneself in writing.

Tangled Yarns:  If you sew, crochet, knit or do any type of needle work, Tangled Yarns may be for you.  Join us Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. for our next meeting.

Outlaw Trail Quilt Show:  The library will participate in the 2013 Outlaw Trail Quilt Show on October 11th-13th.  We are looking for people to show quilts, help with displaying quilts and doing quilt demonstrations.  If you would like to participate, or have questions, call Dan at the library 402-494-7545 for details.

“The world is made of stories, not atoms,” as the poet said, and on Thursday, August 1, 2013, 6 to 8 pm, those who come to the writing workshop at the South Sioux City Public Library will get a chance to show how true that is. Charley Kempthorne, a writer and teacher who has made a career of helping people write the stories of their life, will conduct a two hour workshop at the Library at that time.

Mad Science:  Once again Mad Science will come to the library on Wednesday July 17th at 6:30 p.m.  This year’s theme is Dig into Reading.  Children love Mad Science.  Parents won’t want to miss bringing their children to this event.

Ice Art:  The youth department will be offering an ice Art project on Thursday July 18th at 11:00 a.m.

Juggling Show:  Library Director, Dave Mixdorf, will bring his popular Juggling Show to the library on Friday July 19th at 2:00 p.m.

Technology Classes:  We have a full schedule of technology classes this week.  A few of them follow.

Everything Google: (Monday 7/15 at 1:00 p.m.) Welcome to the wonderful world of Google.  Learners will discover some about Gmail, Google Drive, Google Play, Google calendar, Google Books and more.
