The Last Full Week of Summer Reading Program at the Library
It’s the dog days of July and our 2013 Summer Reading Program is nearly completed. Don’t miss the last activities for the year.
Magic Treasure Rocks (Monday July 22nd at 3:00 p.m.) – We have very cool rocks that hold treasures, come explore the science in making our rocks disappear to discover the treasure inside yours! Monday.
What’s Cool to Read (Wednesday July 24th at 6:00 p.m.)– Are you in 4-6 grades and having trouble finding a good book to read? Come here about some cool books that you are able to check out at our library! Wednesday.
Bike for School Supplies at Cardinal Park (Thursday July 25 at 6:30 p.m.) – Join the Optimist Club of Siouxland at Cardinal Park with your bicycle and helmet for some fun bike riding and exercise while you get ready for school!.
Construction Equipment at the Library (Tuesday July 30 @ 2:00 p.m.) – The City of South Sioux City is helping the library bring large construction trucks to the library for kids to explore! If you have a child that is interested in construction or large trucks, stop by the library parking lot.
Board games and puzzles (Tuesday July 30 @ 2:00 p.m.) – Are you looking for some family fun? Stop by the library and play some board games and put together puzzles. Fun for the whole family! Wednesday July 31 @ 6:00.
B Movie Night at the Bijou (Thursday July 25th at 6:00 p.m.): In this feature a cosmetics queen develops a youth formula from jelly taken from queen wasps. She fails to anticipate the hoary side-effects.
LifeStory Writers Workshop: The world is made of stories, not atoms,” as the poet said, and on Thursday, August 1, 2013, 6 to 8 pm, those who come to the writing workshop at the South Sioux City Public Library will get a chance to show how true that is.

of their life, will conduct a two hour workshop at the Library at that
time. Kempthorne, who was a pioneer in
the “Memoir Movement” started the first reminiscence writing workshop anywhere

Show-off Your Needlework: Whether you are a quilt artist or a beginning quilter, you are invited to show your work at the See the Byway the
quilt show on October 11th to the 13th. Show your work at a show that will draw
visitors from across the Plains. If you

Technology Classes: The following is a list of a few of our technology classes this week.
Twitter Basics: An introduction to signing-up, creating a profile and using the service to find friends and/ or use Twitter for a news source. Patrons will have the opportunity to have two Twitter friends by the end of the class. Twitter Basics is held on Monday July 22nd at 1:00 p.m.
Microsoft Word 3: We have learned all about saving, new documents, text editing, cut and paste and much more. In this class you will learn bullets, undo/redo, setting margins, page numbers, page breaks, & headers/footers. Join us for this class on Tuesday July 23rd at 11:00 a.m.
Mango Languages: Learning a second language is vital in today’s global economy. Mango Languages is a language learning database that is easy and effective. Mango language will allow you to learn languages like Spanish, French, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, German, Mandarin Chinese, Greek, Italian and more. You will need to have a valid library card to get Mango Languages. For a valid library card, we will need to see picture identification and a piece of current mail with your name and current address. Microsoft Excel 3: If you need to insert a chart into an Excel worksheet, this class will teach you how. We will also talk about page breaks and printing your document. Microsoft Excel 3 classes will be held on Wednesday July 24th at 5:30 p.m. and on Thursday July 25th at 3:00 p.m.
Microsoft Publisher 2: Learn how to use and modify Microsoft Publisher templates. This class is held on Wednesday July 24th at 11:00 a.m.
Microsoft Publisher 3: Learn how to create a variety of documents using Microsoft Publisher. This class will be held on Thursday July 25th at 4:00 p.m.
Tech Thursday is a weekly one hour course in which you can bring your technology questions and the library staff will seek to answer those questions about technology and social media. Tech Thursday is held on July 25th at 5:00 p.m.
