Consumer Information at the Library

Representatives from The Center for Siouxland will be at the library to discuss the Consumer Credit Counseling Services available at the Center for Siouxland.  The Center has Certified Credit Counselors to aid in financial education, money management, and budgeting and debt reduction.  They will be here on August 27th at 6:30 p.m. to discuss these issues and more.

On Tuesday September 24th, the library will host a Banned Books Day Read-a-thon from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Banned Books Week is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read. Typically held during the last week of September, it highlights the value of free and open access to information. Banned Books Week brings together the entire book community –- librarians, booksellers, publishers, journalists, teachers, and readers of all types –- in shared support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular.

The read-a-thon is designed to raise awareness of books that have been challenged in the United States.  We are looking for volunteer readers to signup to read banned or challenged books, quietly, but publicly at the library on September 24th.

Volunteers can choose to read for a fifteen minute segment, up to an hour or more.  Help us to bring attention to our freedom to read on this date.

The See the Byway the Quiltway quilt show is scheduled for October 11th to 13th from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  We will have a wonderful exhibit of quilts at the library and along the Outlaw Trail (The Highway 12 Scenic Byway).  If you would like to show your quilt work, contact Lois at 712-281-0657 and she will get you signed up for that weekend.

The SSC Summit Scribes writer’s group will meet at the library on Monday night August 19th at 6:30 p.m.  The group is open to all writers of all levels.  Our goal is to encourage writing and sharpening our skills.  Join us for the discussion.
