Banned Books Week is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read. Held September 22-28, it highlights the value of free and open access to information. Banned Books Week brings together the entire book community –- librarians, booksellers, publishers, journalists, teachers, and readers of all types –- in shared support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular.
The South Sioux City Public Library will be hosting a Read-a-Thon on Tuesday, September 24th from 9am till 8pm. If you would like to participate we will have individuals sign-up for 15 minute time periods where they will silently read a Banned or Challenged Book. The sign-up sheet is located at the circulation desk. Copies of Banned/Challenged Books will be available. Please stop at the library or call the library (494-7545) to schedule a time to read.
A list of Banned/Challenged Books is included in an attachment and also some basic information about Banned/Challenged materials.
