A Wonderful Life Begins at the Library

A Frank Capra Classic is the December Classic Movie and Discussion.  Have Christmas with James Stewart, Donna Reed and many more on December 17th at 7:00 p.m. 
John Grisham’s humorous holiday novel Skipping Christmas is the basis of the December Real to Reel Movie, shown on Saturday December 21st at 2:00 p.m.  From the movie summary:  When only child, Blair leaves the family nest, Luther and Nora decide to book a cruise and skip Christmas altogether. Their decision to boycott tradition has the whole neighborhood in an uproar, and when Blair calls on Christmas Eve to announce a surprise visit with her new fiancée, the Kranks have just twelve hours to perform a miracle and pull themselves and their neighbors together to throw the best celebration ever.
E-book Reader Class: (12/ 16 at 3:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m., 12/17 at 12:00 p.m., and 12/19 at 6:00 p.m.) covers what an e-Book reader is and provides hands on demonstration of some of the different kinds. Also teaches how to use Overdrive, a way to get e-Books through the Library.
Windows Basics 2: (12/17 at 10:00 p.m.) With this class we will build on the knowledge of Windows Basic and learn more about the Start Menu, where you can launch any programs installed on your computer and also search for files (pictures, videos and music) we’ll also demonstrate how to “pin” your favorite programs to the Start Menu or Taskbar.
Windows Basics 3:  (12/16 at 5:00 p.m.) Did you know that you can Aero Peek, Snap and Shake on your computer? If you don’t know what we am talking about, stop in and let us show you some new ways of working with Windows to make it more productive. Microsoft Word 1:  (12/17 at
Microsoft Word 1: (12/17 at 2:00 p.m.) We want you to become familiar with Microsoft Word 2007, so to begin we will start with basic terminology, how to accomplish everyday tasks such as creating a new document, saving a document, spell checking, change text and printing.
Microsoft Excel 1: (12/17 at 3:00 p.m.) Trying to make a spreadsheet? Need a little starting guidance? We can help. We will teach all about the worksheets in Excel, how to move around the worksheet, all about the cells in the worksheet (cut copy paste) inserting rows/columns, and saving all your hard work. 
Job and Career Accelerator:  (12/17 at 4:00 p.m.) Are you looking for a job? Need help updating your resume? Then this is your class. Learn how to use this library database to search and apply for jobs in the United States. This program allows you to create a resume and cover letters that are adapted to the type of job you are looking for.
Clean Up Your Computer:  (12/17 at 5:30 p.m.) Is your computer running slower? Do pop-ups keep appearing? Does your computer randomly crash or freezes up? Then this may be the class for you. Clean up Your Computer shows you how to maintain your computer on both the outside and the inside. Learn what basic procedures and what free software you can use to improve the performance of your computer.
Setting up an Email Account:  (12/18 at 5:30 p.m., 12/19 at 10:00 a.m.) If you never have had an email account this is the class for you. Learn about the different, free email service that is very easy to sign-up for and use.
Internet Privacy: (12/19 at 11:00 a.m.) We will cover why privacy is important, safe searches and safety in social media.
Nebraska Access: (12/19 at 2:00 p.m.  An introduction to the search engine developed by the Nebraska Library Commission and the databases available to South Sioux City Public Library card holders.
Microsoft Publisher 1 (12/19 at 3:30 p.m.):  Microsoft Publisher is a basic course covering the types of documents that can be created, how to modify templates and how to insert text and images.
Tech Thursday (12/19 at 5:00 p.m.):  Join us for an hour of answering your technology questions.
Warm up with a Good Book:  Cold nights call for a good book to read.  The following are popular titles with holiday flair.
My Kind of Christmas by Robyn Carr:  Patrick Riordan's plans for a relaxing Christmas--a much-needed break from his work as a Navy pilot--are complicated when he falls for Angie LeCroix, who is visiting Virgin River in order to escape her hovering mother. - Catalog record
A Literary Christmas:  Great Contemporary Christmas Stories edited by Lilly Gordon contains stories from authors such as Frank O’Connor, Tobias Wolfe, Annie Dillard, Peter Matheson and Patricia High smith.
