Good Things are Cooking at the Library

The following is the library column written for Dakota County Star.  Thank them for their support of the library.

Good Things are Cooking at the Library
With temperatures below zero, you may want to develop some new ideas for your winter time cooking.  Library Eats will meet for the first time on Thursday night, January 9th at 6:30 p.m. for Crook-Pot Cooking.  Participants must be 18 years old or older to participate.

Cover to Cover book club will discuss the book entitled, The Dinner by Herman Koch on Monday afternoon January 13th at 3:30 p.m.  We will also discuss Gideon’s Wall by Greg Kurzawa.  The author will be at the library, courtesy of the Jackson Book Club on Tuesday night January 21st.  We will have more information on that next week.

E-Book Reader classes are held on January 13th at 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., January 14th at 12:30 p.m., and January 16th at 6:00 p.m.  This class covers what an e-Book reader is and provides hands on demonstration of some of the different kinds. Also teaches how to use Overdrive, a way to get e-Books through the Library.

Windows 2 is held on Tuesday January 14th at 10:00 a.m.  With this class we will build on the knowledge of Windows Basic and learn more about the Start Menu, where you can launch any programs installed on your computer and also search for files (pictures, videos and music) we’ll also demonstrate how to “pin” your favorite programs to the Start Menu or Taskbar.

Setting up an Email Account:  If you never have had an email account this is the class for you. Learn about the different free email service that is very easy to sign-up for and use.  This class will be held on Tuesday January 14th at 2:00 p.m.

Windows 1 will be held on January 14th at 3:00 p.m.  We will start at the very beginning of Windows 7 with an introduction to the Desktop, Start Menu and the all new Taskbar.

PowerPoint is a complete presentation graphics package. It gives you everything you need to produce a professional-looking presentation. PowerPoint offers word processing, outlining, drawing, graphing, and presentation management tools- all designed to be easy to use and learn.

In PowerPoint 1: learn how to navigate between the different views in PowerPoint. Discover different templates, drawing tools, and slide master. Attendees will create a brief PowerPoint presentation on Tuesday January 14th at 4:00 p.m.

Then at 5:00 p.m. we offer PowerPoint 2.  In this class, you will learn how to add graphics, animation, transitions, sounds, and charts to a PowerPoint presentation. Attendees need to have basic PowerPoint skills before attending this class.

Clean up Your Computer is held on Wednesday January 15th at 5:30 p.m.  In this class we show you how to maintain your computer on both the outside and the inside. Learn what basic procedures and what free software you can use to improve the performance of your computer.

Pinterest is a tool for collecting and organizing the things that inspire you.  We offer a class on Pinterest Basics on Wednesday January 15th at 6:30 p.m.  Join us to find out more about how to use this site.

Setting up a Yahoo Email Account:  If you never have had an email account this is the class for you. Yahoo email is a free email service that is very easy to sign-up for and use.  This class is on Thursday January 16th at 11:00 a.m.

Tech Thursday is an informal time, where you bring your technical questions and we seek to provide answers. It is held on Thursday January 16th at 5:00 p.m.

Other Classes this week are Microsoft Word 1 on Monday January 13th at 12:30 p.m., Microsoft Word 2 on Monday January 13th at 5:00 p.m. and Tuesday January 14th at 11:00 a.m., Microsoft Word 3 on Wednesday January 15th at 11:00 a.m., Facebook Basics on Thursday January 16th at 2:00 p.m., and Facebook for Business on Thursday January 16th at 3:30 p.m.
