Iowa Ghosts and the Afterlife at the Library

The following is the weekly column posted in the Dakota County Star.  We thank them for generosity.
The South Sioux City Public Library is proud to bring Terry Fisk to the library on Saturday June 14th at 3:30 p.m. for “Iowa Ghosts and the Afterlife.  

Fisk discusses his confrontations with the famous skeptic and debunker James Randi.  He also describes his ghost investigations with world-renowned medium Allison DuBois (the real-life inspiration for the hit CBS series, Medium) and psychic Chip Coffey (from TV’s Paranormal State and Psychic Kids).  This session examines some of the haunted locations in Iowa personally investigated by Mr. Fisk.  He will share photos, case histories, eyewitness accounts, and ghost lore.  

Fisk co-hosted The Unexplained radio talk show, directed The Unexplained television series, lectures at paranormal conferences throughout the US, and has co-authored seven popular books.  
Fisk has been interviewed and featured on numerous radio and television programs including Scariest Places on Earth (ABC Family Network), Dakota Life (SD Public Broadcasting and RFD-TV), and Coast to Coast AM (nationally syndicated with 20 million listeners). 

Cover to Cover book club will meet on Monday afternoon June 9th at 3:00 p.m.  They will discuss The Paris Wife chapters 1-24.

E-book Reader (Monday June 9th at 3:00 p.m. & 6:00 p.m., Tuesday June 10th at 12:30 p.m., and Thursday June 12th at 6:00 p.m.):  Covers what an e-Book reader is and provides hands on demonstration of some of the different kinds. Also teaches how to use Overdrive, a way to get e-Books through the Library.  

Keyboard Mouse Skills (Monday June 9th at 5:00 p.m.): Double-click, Right-click, Scroll… If you get overwhelmed by knowing what all to do and when to do it with your computer mouse, step into this class and learn! Your mouse and keyboard are the ways you communicate with your computer; the more you know the more you can make your computer work for you!

Excel 2 (Tuesday June 10 at 10:00 a.m.):  Did you know that Excel has a way to input math calculations right on your worksheet? There are ways to edit the cells in the worksheet such as alignments, borders, font changes, background, etc.

Know Your Computer (Tuesday June 10th at 2:00 p.m.):  Would you like to learn the very basics of your computer? How about increase your computer vocabulary? This class will teach the very basics of computer knowledge. It will let you feel confident in knowing what all the components are on your computer.
Windows 3 (Tuesday June 10th at 3:00 p.m.):  Did you know that you can Aero Peek, Snap and Shake on your computer? If you don’t know what we am talking about, stop in and let us show you some new ways of working with Windows to make it more productive.

Setting up an Email Account (Tuesday June 10th at 4:00 p.m.):  If you never have had an email account this is the class for you. Learn about the different free email service that is very easy to sign-up for and use.

Clean up Your Computer (June 10th at 5:30 p.m.):  Is your computer running slower? Do pop-ups keep appearing? Does your computer randomly crash or freezes up? Then this may be the class for you. Clean up Your Computer shows you how to maintain your computer on both the outside and the inside. Learn what basic procedures and what free software you can use to improve the performance of your computer.

Tangled Yarns (Tuesday June 10th at 6:30 p.m.):  Join us for a time of learning, needlework, and fun.

Job and Career Accelerator (Wednesday June 11th at 5:30 p.m.):  Are you looking for a job? Need help updating your resume? Then this is your class. Learn how to use this library database to search and apply for jobs in the United States. This program allows you to create a resume and cover letters that are adapted to the type of job you are looking for.

How to Search the Internet (Thursday June 12th at 10:00 a.m.): Tired of having 100,000’s of results appear whenever you search the internet. Learn some of the tricks librarian’s use to make your search a lot more manageable.

Facebook Basics (June 12th at 11:00 a.m.): This class will help you get up to speed on how to create, use and maintain a Facebook page of your own and understanding the privacy policies and settings.
Blogging Basics (Thursday June 12th at 2:00 p.m.):  We will cover how to create a blog, use templates to create the look you want and how to add fun stuff to your blog.

Everything Google (Thursday June 12th at 3:30 p.m.):  Welcome to the wonderful world of Google.  Learners will discover some about Gmail, Google Documents, Google calendar, Google Books and more.

Tech Thursday (Thursday June 12th at 5:00 p.m.):  If you have technology questions we will work with you to find answers.

Library Eats (Thursday June 12th at 6:30 p.m.):  Learn the fine art of grilling at this Library.
