A Festival of Good Books at the South Sioux City Public Library

This is the weekly column that we print in the Dakota County Star.  We thank the Star for their support of the Library.

Cover to Cover:  This week Cover to Cover book club discusses the book In the Country of Men by Hisham Matar.  In this book, Qaddafi’s Libya, 1979, Suleman, nine years-old, sees his father across a busy marketplace, when he is supposed to be out of town.  Suleman is thrust into a world in which a telephone call could bring grave danger.  His mother hurries to burn his father’s beloved books and a stranger is ever present at parked at their house.  We will discuss this book on Monday July 28th at 3:00 p.m.
Tangled Yarns sewing group meets on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m.  Join them to learn together.
Monday July 28th you have the opportunity to learn about your e-book reader at 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.  If you have taken Microsoft Word 1 and 2, you can take Microsoft Word 3.  In this class, you will learn bullets, undo/redo, setting margins, page numbers, page breaks, & headers/footers.
Wednesday July 30th we offer Clean up Your Computer at 5:30 p.m.  Is your computer running slower? Do pop-ups keep appearing? Does your computer randomly crash or freezes up? Then this may be the class for you. Clean Up Your Computer shows you how to maintain your computer on both the outside and the inside. Learn what basic procedures and what free software you can use to improve the performance of your computer.
On Thursday July 31st we have a busy day of technology classes.  Learn the Library Webpage is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. You will learn everything that you have available on the library web page. How to renew books, how to search for jobs, find out important information, what books your favorite author has written. All this information will be revealed and more.
Take Online Bookmarking and Note Keeping at 11:00 a.m.  You will discover various options for online bookmarking and note keeping. 
Using Library Reference Sources is held at 2:00 p.m.  By using reference tools, we will cover how to find information on Wilson Web, eLibrary and HeritageQuest.
Learn how to use Google Documents at 3:30 p.m.  This class will give learners an opportunity to learn how to create word processing documents, spreadsheets and presentations in the cloud and share them with friends.
Wind up the day with Tech Thursday at 5:00 p.m., where if you have questions we will help you to find the answers.
