Celebrate National Family Literacy Day with the South Sioux City Public Library

Turn off your television and pick up a good book on Saturday November 1st to celebrate National Family Literacy Day.  It is a great time to stop in a pick up those extra books at the library.

Daylight Savings Time starts at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday November 2nd.  Don’t forget to turn your clocks back an hour.

PBS was created on November 3rd, 1969.  We commend these DVD collections from PBS in celebration of this anniversary.
"The Roosevelts" covers the lives of Theodore, Franklin Delano, and Eleanor. 

Downton Abbey Season 4 remains a highly popular series and is available t the library. 

The Country Music Association Awards are presented on Wednesday November 5th.  The following are some our the library’s latest country music releases:  A Dotted Line by Nickel Creek; Where It All Began by Dan and Shay; Remedy by Old Crow Medicine Show; Moonshine in the Trunk by Brad Paisley; I Don’t Dance by Brice Lee; The Outsiders by Eric Church; Platinum by Miranda Lambert; Old Boots, New Dirt by Jason Aldean; Anything Goes by Florida Georgia Line; and 747 by Lady Antebellum. 

Setting Up an Email Account (Tuesday November 4th at 10:00 a.m. & Thursday November 6th at 3:00 p.m.):  If you never have had an email account this is the class for you. Learn about the different, free email service that is very easy to sign-up for and use. 

Clean Up Your Computer (Tuesday November 4th at 11:00 a.m.):  Is your computer running slower? Do pop-ups keep appearing? Does your computer randomly crash or freezes up? Then this may be the class for you. Clean up Your Computer shows you how to maintain your computer on both the outside and the inside. Learn what basic procedures and what free software you can use to improve the performance of your computer.

Excel 2 (Tuesday November 4th at 1:00 p.m.):  Did you know that Excel has a way to input math calculations right on your worksheet? There are ways to edit the cells in the worksheet such as alignments, borders, font changes, background, etc.

 Excel 3 (Tuesday November 4th at 2:00 p.m. & 7:00 p.m.):  If you need to insert a chart into an Excel worksheet, this class will teach you how. We will also talk about page breaks and printing your document.

 E-book Reader (Tuesday November 4th at 5:00 p.m. & Thursday November 6th at 2:00 p.m.):  Covers what an e-Book reader is and provides hands on demonstration of some of the different kinds. Also teaches how to use Overdrive, a way to get e-Books through the Library.

Excel 1 (Tuesday November 4th at 6:00 p.m.): Trying to make a spreadsheet? Need a little starting guidance? We can help. We will teach all about the worksheets in Excel, how to move around the worksheet, all about the cells in the worksheet (cut copy paste) inserting rows/columns, and saving all your hard work.

Tangled Yarns sewing group meets on Tuesday night November 4th at 6:30 p.m.

Library Advisory Board meets on Wednesday November 5th at 5:30 p.m.

Power Point 1 (Thursday November 6th at 10:00 a.m.): learn how to navigate between the different views in PowerPoint. Discover different templates, drawing tools, and slide master. Attendees will create a brief PowerPoint presentation.

Power Point 2 (Thursday November 6th at 11:00 a.m.):  In this class, you will learn how to add graphics, animation, transitions, sounds, and charts to a PowerPoint presentation. Attendees need to have basic PowerPoint skills before attending this class.

Facebook Basics (Thursday November 6th at 4:00 p.m.):  This class will help you get up to speed on how to create, use and maintain a Facebook page of your own and understanding the privacy policies and settings.

Tech Thursday is on Thursday night November 6th at 6:00 p.m.

Garden Group Butterflies:  Butterflies do more than beautify a garden area.  This month we discuss types of butterflies and moths that I can find in my garden. We will also discuss what I plant to attract them to my yard. This is held on Thursday, November 6th at 6:30 p.m.

Blogging Basics (Thursday November 6th at 7:00 p.m.):  We will cover how to create a blog, use templates to create the look you want and how to add fun stuff to your blog.

Join us for family movies on Monday at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
