Hangout at the South Sioux City Public Library

The following is our weekly column printed in the Dakota County Star.
Hangout at the South Sioux City Public Library
Writer to Writer: Alicia Rudkicki will speak at Writer to Writer via Google Hangouts on Saturday November 15th at 10:00 a.m.
Ms. Rudnicki is a writer and editor, who created the e-magazine Library Mix, which celebrates libraries and literacy.  She will speak on writing and publishing an e-magazine.
During the second hour we will read some of our current work.

Tangled Yarns:  Join us on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. for a time of needlework and fun.
Club 745.5 (Crafts) “Gifts in a Jar”:  Club 745.5 tackles gift giving with a crafty twist as they learn to make gifts in jars.  The class will be held on Thursday November 20th at 6:30 p.m. and Friday November 21st at 10:30 a.m.
Microsoft Word I, II, and III:  Tuesday is the day to learn Microsoft Word at the library.  At 10:00 a.m. we offer Microsoft Word I.  We want you to become familiar with Microsoft Word 2007, so to begin we will start with basic terminology, how to accomplish everyday tasks such as creating a new document, saving a document, spell checking, change text and printing.  At 11:00 a.m. we offer Microsoft Word II.  We will add to our knowledge from Word 1 and expand a little bit more. We will discuss the ruler, indents & tabs, insert/overtype, cut and paste, using the clipboard, and paragraph styles.  Microsoft Word III is held at 1:00 p.m.
Microsoft Excel I: Tuesday at 2:00 p.m., we offer Microsoft Excel I.  Trying to make a spreadsheet? Need a little starting guidance? We can help. We will teach all about the worksheets in Excel, how to move around the worksheet, all about the cells in the worksheet (cut copy paste) inserting rows/columns, and saving all your hard work.
E-book Reader:  E-book Reader class is held on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. and Thursday November 20th at 2:00 p.m.  This class covers what an e-Book reader is and provides hands on demonstration of some of the different kinds. Also teaches how to use Overdrive, a way to get e-Books through the Library.
Yahoo Messengerclass is held on Tuesday November 18th at 6:00 p.m.  Do you have friends or family that live so far away you never get to see them? Yahoo Messenger provides you the opportunity to keep in contact with them for free. Yahoo Messenger is a free instant messaging program that allows you to visually see, talk to and even sends text messages to individuals all over the world. This class will teach you how to set up an account and what type of equipment you will need for your computer.
Clean up Your Computer is held on Tuesday November 18th at 7:00 p.m.  Is your computer running slower? Do pop-ups keep appearing? Does your computer randomly crash or freezes up? Then this may be the class for you. Clean up Your Computer shows you how to maintain your computer on both the outside and the inside. Learn what basic procedures and what free software you can use to improve the performance of your computer.
Publisher I & II:  At 3:00 p.m., we offer Publisher I.  Microsoft Publisher is a basic course covering the types of documents that can be created, how to modify templates and how to insert text and images.  Microsoft Publisher II is held on Thursday November 20th at 3:00 p.m.  Learn how to use and modify Microsoft Publisher templates.
Pinterest:  Learn about Pinterest on Thursday November 20th at 5:00 p.m.
Tech Thursday:  If you have technology questions, we help you find answers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday November 20th.
Facebook for Business:  This class will help you get up to speed on how to create, use and maintain a Facebook page of for your own business.  Join us on Thursday November 20th at 7:00 p.m.
