Looking Forward to a Great New Year at the South Sioux City Public Library
The staff of the South Sioux City Public Library would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year.  We will close at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 31st.  We will reopen on Friday, January 2nd at 9:00 a.m.

Smart Investing @ your Library Kick-off:  Learn more about investing, planning for retirement, budgeting, repairing your credit and much more.  The Smart Investing @ your Library Kick-off will be held on January 13th at 6:30 p.m. Refreshments are provided.

Our next event is Getting Ready to Invest:  This webinar is held on January 20th at 6:30 p.m.  Participants can ask questions of staff at the end of the webinar.

Money Mechanics-Record Keeping:  Library staff will discuss record keeping on Thursday January 22nd at 6:30 p.m.

Online webinar: Selecting Investments That Are Right for You: This webinar is held on Tuesday January 27th at 6:30 p.m.

Nebraska Spirit:  The North Platte Canteen:  Charlotte Endorf will speak at the South Sioux City Public Library on Saturday, January 24th at 2:00 p.m.  Her topic is “Nebraska Spirit:  the North Platte Canteen”. 

During World War II, American soldiers from across the country rolled through North Platte, Nebraska, on troop trains in route to Europe and the Pacific.  Learn the story of the community that turned a railroad depot into a legend and touched the lives of more than six million soldiers from 1942 to 1946.

Charlotte Endorf is a lifelong Nebraskan. Charlotte has authored nine books on the Orphan Train, the North Platte Canteen.

Nebraska Spirit:  the North Platt Canteen is part of the 2015 One Book One Siouxland programming. 

Tangled Yarns is a group of needle crafters that meet each Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m.

Library Eats:  “Soups and Stews”:  Winter is a time for some of those good, hearty soups and stews.   Library Eats will demonstrate how to make some tasty winter dishes on Thursday January 8th at 6:30 p.m.

Bead Art Bookmarks at Club 745.5:  The crafters at Club 745.5 will demonstrate how to make bead art bookmarks on Thursday, January 15th at 6:30 p.m. and repeated on Friday, January 16th at 10:30 a.m.

Garden Group January 26th at 6:30 p.m.:  The Garden Club makes its move to Monday nights with this January meeting.

AtoZ Databases U Training Center:  The library’s AtoZ Database has added a training center to assist you in using their database.  The following is information about current the classes they offer.

At AtoZU, our mission is to provide quality education that will strengthen the knowledge of both patrons and librarians. AtoZdatabases pursues this mission through offering various courses such as Principles of Basic Searches in AtoZdatabases, Principles of How to Find a Job, Résumé Writing & Ace an Interview, and Principles of How to Find New Customers & Grow Your Business. The Purpose of these courses is to help patrons and librarians capitalize on the information we have complied.

ATZP 101: Principles Of Basic Searches in AtoZdatabases:  Here you will learn basic searching on AtoZdatabases. We will cover the three quick search options, go through key features of each database, and learn how to generate lists then print, download, or email them. Make sure to write down all your questions, so you can ask at the end of the training session. Classes typically run between 20 and 30 minutes depending upon questions.
 ATZJ 101: Principles of How to Find a Job, Résumé Writing & Ace an Interview:
In this training session we will generate lists of job opportunities, go over job tips and look at various résumé templates. This is an interactive session, so feel free to ask any and all questions. Classes typically run between 20 and 30 minutes depending upon questions.

ATZB 101: Principles of How to Find New Customers & Grow Your Business:  During this training session you will learn about the benefits AtoZdatabases offers to strengthen your client list and even increase to foot traffic within your business. Such benefits include generating lists, emailing data, creating matrices, and figuring out who your competition is. Make sure to write down all your questions, so you can ask at the end of the training session. Classes typically run between 20 and 30 minutes depending upon questions.
