The following is the weekly column printed in the Dakota County Star.

Relieve Some Stress at the South Sioux City Public Library
April is Stress Awareness Month.  Relieve some stress with these youth education opportunities.

Youth Activities:  Tell Me a Story is on Monday March 30th at 1:30 p.m., Night of FUN is on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday we have Tell Me a Story at 4:30 p.m., Pat-a-Cake Pals is Thursday at 10:00 a.m., Toddler Time is held on Friday at 10:00 AM.  We also have Family Movie Time on Monday at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

Tuesday Technology Classes:  A little extra knowledge also helps to reduce stress.  Join us on Tuesday, March 31st at 10:00 a.m. for Excel 1, at 11:00 a.m. for Excel 2, at 1:00 p.m. for Excel 3, at 2:00 p.m. for Keyboard and Mouse Skills, and at 5:00 p.m. for E-book Reader.

Thursday Technology Classes:  We offer technology classes on Thursdays as well.  On Thursday April 2nd, we have at 10:00 p.m. Windows 1, at 11:00 p.m. Windows 2, at 2:00 p.m. is E-book Reader, at 3:00 is Publisher 1, at 4:00 p.m. Publisher 2, at 6:00 p.m. Tech Thursday, and at 7:00 p.m. is Publisher 3.

Tangled Yarns is a group of people who meet to learn and work on crafts of all kinds.  Tangled Yarns meets Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m.

Freegal Music:  The South Sioux City Public Library has joined Library Ideas network of Public Library websites that offer access to over 7 million songs, including Sony Music Entertainment’s catalogue of legendary artists.

The Freegal Music Service will allow the South Sioux City Public Library to increase the size and diversity of its collection by offering access to over 28,000 music labels from 101 different countries.

Under the terms of the agreement, registered cardholders of the _South Sioux City Public Library can download a select number of Freegal Music MP3 files each week: and stream hours of music every day) at no direct cost via   The library will underwrite the purchase of the music.   The Freegal Music Service also has popular music videos for download.

“We are very excited to offer a service like this that delivers great music, compatibility with lots of devices and simplicity of use.  We think this will be incredibly popular with our patrons and will help the library in marketing all its services to the community,” said Dave Mixdorf.

Books on Stress Reduction:  Reading in general is stress reliever.  These books will help you to better deal with your stress.

Financially Fearless: the LearnVest Program for Taking Control of Your Money Alexa Von Tobet.  This book teaches the learner how get over their investment fear and move forward at your pace.

Organize your mind, Organize Your Life: Train Your Brain to get more done in Less Time by Paul Graves Hammeness.  This book tackles the disorganized mind, which is another major stressor.
