Another Exciting Week at the South Sioux City Public Library

The following is the weekly column that is printed in the Dakota County Star newspaper.

Another Exciting Week at the South Sioux City Public Library

The library has so much to do for people of all ages.

Tell me a Story is a story time for preschool aged children and their caregivers. Join us while we read and craft on Monday April 27th at 1:30 p.m. and Wednesday April 29th at 4:30 p.m.

Family Movie:  All movies are "PG-13" ratings or lower, for the whole family to enjoy!  Movies are shown on Monday at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

Night of FUN @ the Library:  This is a program for children of all ages to come to the library and see how fun the library is.  This program is held on Tuesday night April 28th at 6:30 p.m.

Pat-a-Cake Pals: This is a time to introduce the library to our youngest customers, those under 2 years old. We sing, read and play!  This program is held on Thursday April 30th at 10:00 a.m.

Toddler Time:  A story for children 2-3 years old and their caregivers. We enjoy books, crafting and a snack Friday May 1st at 10:00 a.m.

Cover to Cover book club will discuss the first four parts of  In the Garden of the Beast:  Love, Terror, and an American Family in Hitler’s Berlin by Erik Larson will discussed on Monday April 27th at 3:00 p.m.  This is the story of America’s ambassador to Germany in the years of Hitler’s rise to power.  Cover to Cover is open to all readers of all ages.

Garden Group meets on Monday May 27th at 6:30 p.m. This month we focus on herb gardening.

Microsoft Word 1:  We want you to become familiar with Microsoft Word 2007, so to begin we will start with basic terminology, how to accomplish everyday tasks such as creating a new document, saving a document, spell checking, change text and printing (Tuesday April 28th at 10:00 a.m., 6:00 p.m., and Thursday April 30th at 10:00 a.m.).

Microsoft Word 2:  We will add to our knowledge from Word 1 and expand a little bit more. We will discuss the ruler, indents & tabs, insert/overtype, cut and paste, using the clipboard, and paragraph styles (Tuesday April 28th at 11:00 a.m., 7:00 p.m., and April 30th at 11:00 a.m.).

Microsoft Excel 1:  Trying to make a spreadsheet? Need a little starting guidance? We can help. We will teach all about the worksheets in Excel, how to move around the worksheet, all about the cells in the worksheet (cut copy paste) inserting rows/columns, and saving all your hard work (Tuesday April 28th at 1:00 p.m.).

Microsoft Excel 2:  Did you know that Excel has a way to input math calculations right on your worksheet? There are ways to edit the cells in the worksheet such as alignments, borders, font changes, background, etc. (Tuesday April 28th at 2:00 p.m.).

E-Book Reader:  Covers what an e-Book reader is and provides hands on demonstration of some of the different kinds. Also teaches how to use Overdrive, a way to get e-Books through the Library (April 28th at 5:00 p.m. and Thursday April 30th at 2:00 p.m.).

Microsoft Publisher 1:  Microsoft Publisher is a basic course covering the types of documents that can be created, how to modify templates and how to insert text and images (Thursday April 30th at 3:00 p.m.).

Microsoft Publisher 2:  Learn how to use and modify Microsoft Publisher templates (Thursday April 30th at 4:00 p.m.).

Tech Thursday:  During this hour library staff members seek to answer your technology questions (Thursday April 30th at 6:00 p.m.).

Microsoft Publisher 3:  Learn how to create a variety of documents using Microsoft Publisher (Thursday April 30th at 7:00 p.m.)

Tangled Yarns is a group of people who meet to learn and work on all sorts of needle crafts.  Tangled Yarns meets Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m.

Recommendations:  The following are a few recommendations for your consideration.

The River and the Thread by Rosanne Cash (CD).  This is the latest album from the acclaimed country/folk singer, songwriter and daughter of the late Johnny Cash.
